Idler Pulleys for V-Belt and Flat Belt Drives

Idler pulleys are unpowered pulleys used to tension, guide and redirect belts in industrial, agricultural, HVAC and machinery drive applications. They maintain correct belt tension as the belt stretches over time, improve belt wrap angle around drive pulleys and allow belt routing around obstructions. The range covers flat flanged, flat non-flanged and V-belt groove idlers in A, B, C and 5V sections with single and double row ball bearings.
Idler Pulley Types
- Flat flanged idler pulleys: A flat pulley face with raised flanges on one or both sides to retain the belt and prevent it wandering off the pulley. Available in single and double row bearing, heavy-duty, and extra heavy variants.
- Flat non-flanged idler pulleys: A smooth flat pulley without flanges, used where the belt does not need to be guided laterally. Available in single and double row bearing.
- V-belt idler pulleys (grooved): A pulley with one or more V-grooves to match the V-belt section — A, B, C or 5V. V-belt idlers provide positive belt engagement and prevent slipping. Available in single section (A only, B only, C only, 5V only) and multi-section (A/B, B/C, A/B/C) configurations.
- Round belt idler (Aetna): A pulley designed for round (circular cross-section) belts, used in light conveyor and small machinery drives.
Bearing Configurations
- Single row ball bearing: Standard configuration for most idler pulley applications. Handles radial loads from belt tension.
- Double row ball bearing: Provides greater load capacity and longer service life in high-tension or high-speed drive applications.
