ABOUT THIS CATEGORY
Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) also known as adjustable-frequency drives (AFD), variable-voltage/variable-frequency (VVVF) drives, and variable speed drives (VSD) are motor controllers which modify the voltage and frequency of supply in order to change the speed of the motor. They are generally referred to as speed controllers since the resulting output is the adjustment of the motor’s speed. VFDs are used in a wide range of applications, from domestic to industrial, primarily to modify motor speed whilst saving energy and improving efficiency. Using VFDs protects the motors from excessive mechanical stress, thus extending their serviceable life. Variable frequency drives are available in various voltage, power, and current rating options to match different electric motors.
