ABOUT THIS CATEGORY
Metric thread forming taps or chip-free taps are tools used to make threads in softer materials such as aluminum, soft steel, brass, and copper among others. Unlike cutting taps that remove materials to make the thread, thread forming taps displace the material to make the thread. Form tapping results in a stronger thread due to the compressing of the material and does not leave chips or swarf after tapping. Thread forming taps are available in various metric standard sizes and in different thread forms.
