Spotting drill bits or spot drill bits are used to start a traditionally drilled hole. By using the same angled spot drill bits to that of the regular drill bit to be used, an indentation on the exact location of the hole is made. This prevents the drill from walking and avoids unwanted damage in the workpiece. Spotting drill bits are used in metalworks such as precision drilling on a CNC machine.
