Spade drill bits, also known as flat bit or paddle bit, have flat, spade-shaped blade used in boring holes in wood. They have a centre point that guides the drill and sharp cutting edge shoulders that dictates the hole diameter. Some spade bits also have spurs at each shoulder that help in creating a cleaner hole. Moreover, they usually have holes in the middle of the blade for pulling wires from the opposite side of a wall. Spade drill bits are regularly used by carpenters, electricians, and plumbers.
