Micrometers or micrometer screw gauges are precision measuring tools used to measure tiny objects or the thickness of various materials. They use a calibrated screw that transfer linear movement from the spindle to provide precise readings compared to other measuring tools such as calipers. Metric micrometers typically measure in 0.01mm increments while imperial versions in 0.001 inches. Micrometers come in three types namely outside micrometers, inside micrometers, and depth micrometers.
