Slip joint pliers have pivot points that can be moved to increase their jaw opening making them versatile gripping tools. Tongue and groove pliers allow the lower jaw to slide along a tracking section below the upper jaw. Tongue and groove pliers are also called water pump pliers, adjustable pliers, slippy pliers, groove-joint pliers, arc-joint pliers, Multi-Grips, tap or pipe spanners, and gland pliers. Straight slip joint pliers, on the other hand, are configured like combination pliers but allows the pivot to switch between two connected holes.
