Ear protections are devices that attenuate the noise energy that reaches and subsequently damage the inner ear of workers. As recommended, hearing protections are required to be worn in work areas that exceed 85 decibels, while workers exposed to more than 100 decibels needs double the protection. Ear protections include earplugs that are inserted in the ear canal and earmuffs that are placed over the ear. These hearing protections are rated in five classes, with Class 1 being the lowest and Class 5 being the highest.
