Thor TH8060 Hardwood Mallet, 525 g, 58 mm Head, Wood Handle

Thor hardwood mallets come in two sizes: TH8060 at 525 g with a 58 mm (2-1/4 in) head diameter and TH8070 at 750 g with a 67 mm (2-1/2 in) head diameter. The barrel-shaped head is made from laminated compressed wood (density 1.3) with flushed-in glass fibre hoops for extra security (manufacturer-stated).

Both have a wood handle with a conical self-locking taper. Thor says they have excellent resistance to impact and a long service life, and are suitable for hot work applications (manufacturer-stated). The figures come from the Thor website.

Selecting the right option

The two sizes share the same construction, so the choice is size and weight: TH8060 (525 g, 58 mm head) for lighter work and TH8070 (750 g, 67 mm head) when you want more weight and a larger striking face. Any striking tool carries some risk, so take care to prevent injury to yourself and damage to the work.
