The Sutton T691 is a spiral flute tap (R50 spiral, UNI designation, Black Magic range) for UNC threads, made from powder metallurgy, vanadium grade high speed steel (PM-HSSE V3) with a Hardlube (TiAlN + WC/C) coating. This listing covers 10 sizes from #2 x 56 TPI to 5/8 x 11 TPI.
The 50° right-hand spiral flute suits blind holes in long chipping materials: the high helix angle curls the chips and transports them back out of the hole. The tap cuts on reversal, so the flutes have rake on both front and back faces. The UNI designation is for normal, general purpose materials, with a normal rake angle and high thread relief, in powder metal high speed steel. The chamfer is Form C (2.5 x P), generally for blind holes.
The thread tolerance is 2BX. The tap is built to DIN 2184-1.

- Powder metallurgy, vanadium grade high speed steel (PM-HSSE V3). The very fine and uniform grain structure allows high hardness while keeping good toughness, for materials up to 40 HRC and difficult-to-machine materials such as stainless steels.
- Hardlube (TiAlN + WC/C) coating for tapping hard-to-machine materials, with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) or dry machining, longer tool life and higher cutting speeds.
- 3 to 4 flutes, depending on size.
- 50° right-hand spiral flute.
- Form C chamfer, 2.5 x P.
