Threaded fittings, also referred to as pipe connectors, are used to connect or alter the direction of flow of fluids in a piping system. They either have internal threads (female) or external threads (male) that allow them to be screwed unto threaded pipes to create a leak-tight connection. Some commonly used fittings are elbows and tees used to redirect flow in pipes, while couplings, nipples, and unions are commonly used to combine and extend the length of pipes.
