This is the AIMS range of industrial paint and the tools to apply it. It covers machinery and industrial enamels, anti-rust paints, primers and etch primers, cold galvanising and zinc coatings, epoxy floor coatings, marking paint, thinners, and painters' brushes, rollers and accessories. The main brands are Anchor, Galmet, Dy-Mark, Boston, CRC, Epirez and Molytec, with Phoenix for brushes, rollers and painters' accessories. Our Marking 101 guide explains how to choose and use marking paint.

Choosing Paint and Equipment
Surface preparation comes first
Most paint failures trace back to preparation. Remove rust, scale, oil and loose paint, abrade for adhesion, and coat soon after preparing the surface. For rust that's already formed see Rust Treatments and Undercoats.
Primer and topcoat
Use a primer to suit the substrate: a corrosion-inhibiting primer for steel, an etch primer for bare metal, and a zinc-rich coating for touch-up of galvanised steel. Then choose a topcoat compatible with the primer, because mixing chemistries can cause poor adhesion.
Cans, aerosols and specialty coatings
Larger jobs suit tinned paint (see Canned Paint), spot repairs suit Aerosols, and heat-resistant, anti-slip and epoxy floor coatings are in Specialty Paint and Coatings.
Application tools
Phoenix brushes and rollers cover edges, walls and flat areas, and the roller trays, buckets and drop sheets cover set-up and protection. Where paint has to be applied by spray for a larger area, talk to us about the right equipment.

People Also Ask — Paint and Equipment
What paints and painting equipment does AIMS stock?
Industrial enamels, anti-rust paints, primers, etch primers, cold galvanising and zinc coatings, epoxy floor coatings and marking paints from Anchor, Galmet, Dy-Mark, Boston, CRC, Epirez and others, plus Phoenix brushes, rollers and painters' accessories.
What primer do I need for steel?
Use a corrosion-inhibiting primer on clean steel, a zinc-rich coating for galvanised touch-up, and an etch primer on bare metal that needs keying. Treat rust first, and match the primer to the topcoat.
How do I prepare steel for painting?
Remove rust, scale, oil and loose paint, abrade for adhesion and wipe with a degreaser, then coat promptly, because bare steel can start to rust again quickly.
What do I use to repair galvanised steel after welding or cutting?
A cold galvanising or zinc-rich coating. Anchor, Galmet, Dy-Mark, Devcon, Molytec and CRC all offer one.
Do you stock brushes and rollers?
Yes. Phoenix brush sets, wall and cutting-in brushes, roller frames, covers and trays, plus buckets, stirrers, masking and drop sheets.
What is the difference between marking paint and normal paint?
Marking paints are made for temporary or semi-permanent marking of lines, survey points and identification. Our Marking 101 guide covers how to choose one.
