KCM 05B-2 BS Roller Chain Offset Link (Half Link) Duplex, 8 mm Pitch

KCM offset links (half links) let a length of BS duplex roller chain be made up with an odd number of pitches. Match the link to the KCM chain with the same chain number, strand count and series.

Selecting the right option

For BS chain the number is the pitch in sixteenths of an inch: 08B is 8/16 in (1/2 in), 12B is 12/16 in (3/4 in), 16B is 1 in. The figure after the dash is the number of strands.

This is KCM standard (carbon steel) BS chain. KCM also lists stainless steel BS chain (05B to 16B) where corrosion, heat or cleanliness rules out carbon steel.

Fitting and use

KCM's power transmission tables note that chain with an offset link transmits 80% of the tabulated power.

KCM lists the offset links for sizes 25, 03, 04 and 05B as two-pitch type only.

KCM says not to replace damaged parts of a chain with new ones. Replace the whole chain, and check the sprockets when changing chain.

Check that a safety cover is fitted before running a chain drive.
