Socket countersunk and Phillips countersunk (machine) screws sit flush with the fastened surface. What's the difference between a screw and a bolt?
Screws are generally driven into a tapped hole, pre-formed thread or the material itself (as with self-tapping screws), while bolts typically pass through a clearance hole and are secured with a nut. In practice the terms overlap — a "hex set screw" and a "hex bolt" can be functionally similar fasteners.
Should I use 304 or 316 stainless steel screws?
Use 316 (A4) stainless for marine, coastal, food-processing or chemical environments where chloride exposure is a factor. 304 (A2) stainless is suitable for general indoor and outdoor engineering use where extreme corrosion resistance isn't required.
