Choosing pins
Pick by the job the pin has to do. Split pins (cotter pins) are bent over after fitting to hold a pin or nut in place. Roll pins are slotted spring pins that grip the hole they are driven into. Clevis pins are headed pins that are held by a split pin or R-clip, and lynch and hitch pins are held by their own retainer for quick fitting and removal. Taper pins are for tapered holes. Our guides cover the detail: Split Pin & Cotter Pin Guide, Roll Pin Guide and Clevis Pin Guide.
Then match the material to where the pin will live. Zinc plated steel suits general workshop use, and stainless (304 or A4 / 316) is the choice where it will be wet or exposed to corrosion. Check diameter and length against the hole, and use the kits when you need a spread of sizes. Always check the data sheet.

Pins FAQs
What is the difference between a split pin and a roll pin?
A split pin (cotter pin) has two legs that are bent over after fitting, so it holds a nut or pin in place and is removed by straightening them. A roll pin is a slotted tube that is driven into a hole and grips by spring tension. The range has both, as individual pins and in kits.
Should I choose zinc plated or stainless pins?
Zinc plated steel suits general workshop use. Stainless suits wet or corrosive conditions. We list Inox World pins in 304 and A4 (316) stainless, a Hobson 316 linch pin and Champion stainless roll pin and split pin kits.
Can I refill an assortment kit?
Champion lists refills for its split pin, roll pin, R-clip, clevis pin and taper pin assortments, so you can restock a kit rather than buy a new one. Check the kit and refill descriptions, or call us and we'll match them up.
