Choosing a Galmet product
Work through the job in order: surface preparation, then converter or primer, then topcoat. Repairing cut, welded or drilled galvanised steel suits ColdGal or DuraGal Silver. Bare steel, galvanised steel and aluminium that need a key for the topcoat suit Keytite Etch Primer. Lightly rusted steel can take Keytite Steel Primer after loose rust and scale are removed. Use the thinner listed for each product: 500E with Keytite Etch Primer, 300C with the enamel spray paints and 400D with the industrial primers. Pack sizes and colours are on each product page.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm surface preparation, recoat windows, compatibility between coats and the correct thinner for your system before you start.

What is ColdGal used for?
ColdGal is a zinc rich cold galvanising paint. Our listings describe it for repairing cut ends, welds and drilled holes in galvanised steel, and for field protection of structural steel where re-galvanising is not practical.
Which thinner do I use with Keytite Etch Primer?
Galmet 500E Etch Thinner. Use it only with the Keytite etch primer products, and add it at the recommended ratio for spray application.
Does Ironize replace a primer?
No. Ironize converts rust to a stable, paintable surface, and you prime and paint after conversion.
Which primer suits lightly rusted steel?
Keytite Steel Primer is described as an enamel-based anti-corrosive primer for lightly rusted steel. Remove loose rust, scale and contamination first.
