The Beaver Big Haul wire rope hoist is a lever operated wire rope hoist that Beaver calls a portable, compact creeper winch for pulling, lifting, lowering, spanning and securing loads over large distances (manufacturer-stated). This listing carries two sizes: 518508, rated for 800 kg lifting and 1250 kg pulling, and 518516, rated for 1600 kg lifting and 2500 kg pulling (manufacturer-stated).

Each hoist comes complete with an operating lever and 20 m of wire rope on a reel, with a safety latch hook at one end and a tapered end for inserting into the unit (manufacturer-stated). Beaver lists a larger 518532, rated 3200 kg lifting and 5000 kg pulling with 16 mm rope, which AIMS does not carry.

Beaver states the hoists comply with AS 1418.2 and says every Big Haul is tested and has its own serial number that traces to a test certificate (manufacturer-stated). The lifting and pulling ratings are separate: use the lifting rating for any overhead or suspended load. Beaver also lists 4WD recovery as an application (manufacturer-stated) but publishes no recovery specific guidance, so ask AIMS or Beaver before using one for vehicle recovery. Lifting equipment must be used within its marked working load limit (WLL), inspected before each use, and selected and used in line with your site lifting procedure and the relevant Australian Standards. Beaver's effort heading reads kN, which cannot be a hand effort; it is probably newtons, so confirm it before relying on it. Beaver lists the same net weight with and without the wire rope and reel, so the weight may not include the rope. Beaver does not define dimension letters A to F, which are in millimetres.

Selecting the right option

Choose by the heaviest load you will lift, using the lifting rating, and allow for slings and hooks. The 20 m rope length sets how far you can lift or pull in a single run. If you are unsure, ask AIMS or a qualified rigger.
