Activators, primers and surface preparation products are used before applying adhesives, sealants or coatings to improve adhesion, accelerate cure, extend bond life or enable bonding on otherwise difficult substrates. Anaerobic adhesive primers from Loctite activate the cure of threadlockers, retaining compounds and sealants on passive metals such as stainless steel, aluminium, zinc and cadmium-plated surfaces that would otherwise cure too slowly or incompletely. Epoxy primers and casting compounds from Epirez and Devcon provide structural bonding, sealing and repair capabilities for metal, rubber and concrete maintenance applications. • Loctite Anaerobic Primers & Activators: Loctite primers (SF 770 polyolefin primer, 7649 acrylic primer, 7471 Primer T) and activators (7387, 7452 Tak Pak) accelerate the cure of anaerobic adhesives on passive or low-activity metal surfaces, and prime non-metallic surfaces such as polyolefins and plastics that anaerobic adhesives do not normally bond to. Always pair the activator or primer with the correct Loctite adhesive grade.
• Epirez Epoxy Products: Epirez supplies epoxy mastic metal primer, casting compound (8837), electrical maintenance kit (324A), concrete etch and cleaner, and epoxy accelerator for industrial repair, electrical enclosure maintenance and concrete surface preparation. Epirez epoxy products are specified in Australian infrastructure and maintenance environments where proven industrial epoxy performance is required.
• Devcon Urethane Primers: Devcon supplies Flexane urethane primers for rubber (FL20) and metal (FL10) substrates, used to prepare surfaces before application of Devcon Flexane urethane repair and coating compounds. Using the correct Devcon primer dramatically improves adhesion and peel strength of urethane repairs on conveyor belts, pump linings, wear pads and rubber-lined components.
• Primer Selection: Match the primer to the adhesive system — Loctite anaerobic primers are formulated specifically for Loctite anaerobic products and will not improve the cure of non-anaerobic adhesives. Similarly, Devcon Flexane primers are formulated for urethane repair compounds and should not be substituted in other adhesive systems.
